Email verification

Check that addresses exist before you email them, so bounces stay low and your sender reputation stays intact.

Bounces hurt deliverability more than almost anything else. Email verification checks each contact's address in the background and tells you whether it's safe to send to.

Turn it on

A manager or the owner switches it on in Settings → Email verification. From then on:

  • Every existing contact is checked, a batch at a time (the backfill).
  • A contact that's created, imported or whose address changes is checked right away.
  • Launching a campaign or sequence checks its audience first.
  • Each contact is re-checked after a number of days you choose (45 by default).

Use Verify now on selected contacts to jump the queue. Up to 25 are answered on the spot; more are queued at the front.

What a result means

StatusMeaningCampaigns & sequences
ValidThe mail server confirmed the mailbox exists and rejects made-up addresses.Sent
RiskyThe domain accepts everything ("catch-all"), so the mailbox can't be confirmed, or other risk signs.Sent; consider your own judgement
UnknownThe server refused to answer, timed out, or blocks checks. Retried later.Sent
InvalidThe domain doesn't exist, has no mail server, or the server said the mailbox doesn't exist.Skipped
QueuedWaiting for its check.Sent

Each result carries a plain-English reason and a trust level (low, medium or high risk) based on the domain's age, website, blocklists, SPF and DMARC records, risky TLDs and whether the mail server points at a disposable service.

Pedibee never guesses: an address is Valid only when the mail server confirms it. Nothing is ever sent during a check.

Where you see it

  • The contact list shows each person's status and filters by it (verification=).
  • A campaign's or sequence's audience lists Invalid email as a skip reason.
  • The API returns the status on each contact.

If the verifier is unavailable

Pedibee still runs the DNS-level checks itself (a domain that doesn't exist is marked Invalid), never marks anything Valid without the mailbox check, leaves the rest Queued, and retries later. Sending is never blocked because verification is down.
