Sending events
Tell Pedibee what people do in your product.
Events are what start, move and stop automations. Each is a name (user_signed_up), who it's about (an email, or your own user id), and optional properties (plan, amount, invoice_id).
The quickest start: Automations → Connect tools → Connect your app. Pick From my code or From Zapier, Make or a form, and the wizard makes the key (or a webhook URL) for you, shows ready-to-paste code, waits for your first event to arrive, and opens an automation for it in one click.
There are four ways to send them:
- The API —
POST /api/v1/eventsfrom your backend with an API key that can Send events (Settings → API keys). See Record an event. - An incoming webhook — a secret URL for Zapier, Make, n8n or a form tool. See Incoming webhooks.
- Stripe or Paddle — billing events, connected in a few clicks. See Stripe and Paddle.
- Pedibee itself —
pedibee.contact_created,pedibee.stage_changed(withfromandto) andpedibee.added_to_list(withlist_name). These are recorded only while an automation uses them.
Good habits
- Send your own
idwith each event. Retries are then safe: the same id never starts anything twice. - Name events by what happened, in the past tense:
trial_started,invoice.payment_failed. - Send the dates automations wait for as ISO dates (
"trial_ends_at": "2026-11-01"). - Keep secrets out. Passwords, card numbers and the like are refused.
The Events tab
Automations → Events has two parts:
- Your events — each event name you've sent, how many arrived in the last 90 days, and which automations use it. Ones nothing uses are marked, with Create automation to start one from it.
- Every event from the last 90 days. Open one to see who it was about, its details, and — for each automation that could use it — what happened: started it, ended their run, or why not: the event didn't match the automation's conditions, the person isn't in who can enter, they're already in it, they've been through it before, it was too old, or the automation is paused or not published yet. Each links to the run, with where it is now.
