Templates and the email builder
Reusable emails you build from blocks or write in HTML, and what happens when a campaign uses one.
A template is a reusable email. Build it in the drag-and-drop builder or write the HTML yourself, then pick it when you create a campaign or a sequence step.
Two ways to write an email
- Builder: rows of one to three columns that stack on phones, filled with blocks. No HTML needed, and the result renders well in Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail.
- HTML: paste or write the HTML yourself. Pedibee cleans it (scripts and other things that don't work in email are removed) and keeps the rest.
Either way, the editor shows a live preview, a phone view, and the inbox check.
The builder
Drag blocks from the palette into a row; click a block to edit it in the inspector on the right. Undo and redo are always a keystroke away.
| Block | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Heading, Text | Rich text: bold, links, lists, alignment and colour. |
| Button | A call to action with its own colour, radius and width. |
| Image | From a URL, with alt text and an optional link. |
| Video | A thumbnail that links to the video (email can't play video). |
| Social | Icons linking to your profiles, in several styles. |
| Quote, Divider, Spacer | Layout. |
| HTML | A snippet of your own HTML inside a built email. |
Every row and block has its own padding and background. The email's overall width, background and font are in the design settings.
Keep it light
Gmail cuts emails over about 102 KB and shows "View entire message". A tracking pixel after the cut never loads. The inbox check warns as you approach it.
Subject and preview text
Each template carries a subject and a preview text, the line inboxes show after the subject. Both take merge tags. Preview text is added as a hidden line at the top of the email when it's sent, so it never shows in the body.
Signatures
Pick a signature for the template; your workspace default is preselected. It's joined to the bottom of the email when the email is previewed, tested or sent, never saved into the template. Editing the signature later changes the next emails of everything that uses it.
What happens when a campaign uses a template
A campaign copies the template when you pick it: the subject, preview text, body and signature choice. Later edits to the template don't change the campaign, so a campaign you launched in March still reads exactly as it did. Sequence steps work the same way.
Testing
Send test sends the email to your own address, with merge tags filled with sample values, the signature joined and tracking links in place, so you can see it in a real inbox before anyone else does.
